Behind the Scenes at Dubai's Biggest Events

When Atlantis The Royale opened its doors, I was there with my camera. When Jason Derulo performed in Dubai, I was in the press pit. The Steve Harvey golf classic in Abu Dhabi — I’ve covered it twice, and both times I left with shots that ended up getting shared by people with millions of followers. I was the only Black photographer on the blue carpet at the Beyoncé concert for the Atlantis grand opening. Those moments still feel unreal.

Celebrity photography in the UAE isn’t just about pressing the shutter button. These events move fast, the lighting changes every few seconds, and you get one chance to get the shot right. I shoot with a Sony A7R IV and fast lenses — my 35mm f1.2 Sigma handles the low-light ballrooms while my 85mm f1.8 gives me that clean background separation on the red carpet. The gear matters, but reading the room matters more.

Celebrities I’ve Worked With

I’ve photographed Lesa Milan and Chanel Ayan from the Real Housewives of Dubai. I’ve covered events with Caroline Brooks. I stood in the same room as Steve Harvey and captured moments from his charitable events. Nigerian celebrities, US-based actors, fashion influencers from across Europe and the Middle East — the list keeps growing. My work has been featured on New York Times Square, which still blows my mind when I think about where I started.

What Makes Celebrity Event Photography Different

At a regular photoshoot, you control the pace. At a celebrity event, the pace controls you. I have to anticipate where people will stand, who’s about to shake hands, and when the crowd will part for a clear shot. I keep my settings locked in for quick transitions between well-lit stages and dim VIP lounges. My V1 flash with the portable bounce keeps faces lit without blinding anyone, which is a real concern when you’re feet away from someone famous.
